Companion Plants

This list was compiled from Louise Riotte's book, Carrots love Tomatoes & Roses love Garlic.  This book is widely recognized as the authoritative resource on companion planting.  Why?  "Plants that assist each other to grow well, plants that repel insects, even plants that repel other plants--all are of great practical use (Riotte, 2004, page 1)."
    • Asparagus--parsley, basil, tomatoes
    • Beets -- bush beans, onions, kohlrabi, lettuce, cabbage family, not pole beans, not mustard
    • Broccoli -- dill, celery, camomile, sage, peppermint, rosemary, potatoes, beets, onions, not tomatoes, not pole beans, not strawberries
    • Bush beans--celery, cucumbers, strawberries, corn, carrots, cauliflower, beets, cabbages, marigolds, not fennel, not onions
    • Cabbage--beans, beets, hyssop, thyme, wormwood, sothernwood, celery, dill, camomile, sage, peppermint, onions, potatoes
    • Carrots--beans, onions, leeks, rosemary, wormwood, sage
    • Cauliflower--beans, beets, celery, not tomatoes, not strawberries

    • Melon--corn, sunflowers, morning glory, don't rotate with squash or cucumbers; not potatoes
    • Okra--melons, cucumbers, sweet peppers, eggplant

    • Strawberries--spinach, garlic, onions, not broccoli
    • Sweet potato--white hellebore
